Some of you may be coming to this blog for the first time or may not have a clue what
Thin Within is. You may have done a Google search for Christian dieting or diets or bible based weight loss. The great news is,
Thin Within is even better than a diet or weight loss program! Totally based on biblical principles, the message is refreshing and freeing!
Thin Within is a book by Judy and Arthur Halliday and it is also a website available at
http://www.thinwithin.org/. It is an approach to life--not just eating. It is surrendering who I am to the Lord, inviting him to invade my life completely. He becomes my sufficiency, my satisfaction, my strength. When I am excited, depressed, anxious, instead of turning to food, I learn to turn to Him to satisfy the heart hunger.
Thin Within teaches me to eat only when I am physiologically hungry and to stop eating when I am physiologically satisfied or not hungry any more. We call that 0 to 5 eating.
No foods are "off limits." So I released 100 pounds while eating chocolate, pizza, mexican food, McDonalds french fries (don't be disgusted! LOL!).
As time progressed, however, I found myself gravitating more towards more beneficial foods. I still eat Godiva chocolate and french fries (have had both today, in fact), but the goal is that NO food will have mastery over me.
This way, not only is the weight released from my body, but it is done in such a way that I can live this way for the rest of my life. I released all of the extra weight by eating normal foods only when hungry. While I live a relatively active lifestyle, shedding the extra weight involved no obsessive exercise. If I have a more active day, I am likely to be hungry more frequently. If I am hungry, I am free to eat! No calorie, fat gram, or point counting.
I am free!
Once I am no longer hungry or "satisfied" I stop eating.
The trick is all those other reasons many of us eat! My heart is to turn to the Lord anytime I have a desire to eat when I am not physically in need of nourishment.
Thank you, Lord, for relieving my body of 100 pounds!

YAAAAYYY, HEIDI!! That's what I was trying to say in my last 2 comments to your 'ugly' post. Focus on what you do right, not what you do wrong.
SUE
Hi everyone!
I could use some advice...
One of my co-workers (she doesn't know Jesus) is also working on losing weight. She has seen me have a little bit of success over the last several months and asks me for advice.
Today she asked, "Sometimes I get a huge craving for chips or french fries, but I don't want to eat bad food because theat will lead me to eating a bad meal. What do you do?"
I've told her about TW, that it is a biblical approach, and that my practice is 0-5 eating. I've told her that it works off the priciple of "everything is permissable, but not profitable" and that there aren't any "bad" foods (it's not the food's fault).
She tells me that she struggles with the mental aspect of eating and wants advice on how to deal with that. Aside from saying that I get all of my strength and ability from the Lord, I don't know what to say.
Any thoughts/advice? We're not at a point where I feel I can tell her, "Give your life to Jesus and He will show you."
Thanks ahead of time!
Awesome job Heidi. We need to live for today, this moment, and this moment deserved a marble. We can't look at the past it's gone. We choose to live in this moment for God's glory. Make a choice that will be pleasing to him.
Heidi,
I love this! You are such an inspiration to me BECAUSE of your honesty and "failures" and "triumphs". You always point me back to Jesus. To looking at HIM and not me. I too am feeling a bit like 2 steps back and 1 forward. BUT, I do think if I do the "marble jar" idea (or some form of it) that I will be more apt to take 2 steps forward....focusing on HIM and not on ME. Thanks!!! Our God is so amazing.
Si se puede,
I think you are doing the right thing by just telling her honestly what you are doing (as in focusing on the Lord). You can certainly point her to the Thin Within book and the website for help.
I find it hard to explain things to people, too but for me I am not really losing weight, but trying to maintain and with body changes with hormones, things are shifting around, so right now no one wants my advice!!! :)
But, in the past when I was losing weight and would try to explain this way of eating/thinking to people, they would just look at me like I was crazy. Oh well.
Keep up the great example and just tell her what God has done for you. :)
Sue, please quite trying to prove your point.
Anyway, Heidi, I started a marble jar on my phone. I know weird, but I indicate in my phone when I made a God choice. I had 5 marbles yesterday. Yeah!!! I love this approach. It is really challenging me to do more "God-Thinking".
Thank you so much for sharing this strategy.
Hi Anita: I was only trying to clear up any misinterpretation of my original reply to the 'ugly' post. I don't care about proving any points. However, I will gladly refrain from posting comments to this or any other post on this blog now. Enough already.
Let's not let the enemy have his way with us. I know he wants to demolish any good that the Lord may want to do through our study, fellowship, and this blog! Please be aware that he prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. We don't want to be easy prey for him. Hugs and prayers...
